Kattumurivukulam Village Development
Kattumurivukulam is a small remote village in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Its residents live below the poverty line. We have visited the site on three different occasions and have obtained the ground report as detailed below.
Total number of families: 174.
Total Number of Students in Kattumurivukkualam School: 174.
Number of student going out for their studies: 15.
Main Income for the Families:
Fishing
Agriculture/ Farming,
Labour work
This Villagers’ agriculture is dependent on the water reservoir (Kattumurivukkulam). This reservoir is maintained by the Central Irrigation service.
What can SKTAT Temple do to improve the livelihood of the people of this village?
1. They need wells for drinking water.
2. Need to improve the access road.
3. Need more sub irrigation channels to improve farming.
4. Incomplete Temple structures must be completed.
5. Need medical facilities.
6. Teachers shortages in the school need to be rectified.
7. A centre for Palmyra products sales to provide employment for the villagers.
SKTAT have pledged £25000 towards the addressing the needs as detailed from the site visit. As part of the first phase of development, we have begun to dig wells to provide clean drinking water.
